Industrial · EnergyA new recycle-gas compressor pushed nighttime noise at the fence line over the municipal 65 dB(A) limit, stalling the operating permit. CSTI ran sound-power testing, built an ISO 9613-2 propagation model, and specified an acoustic enclosure with inlet and discharge silencers.
Hearing ConservationFull-shift dosimetry (ANSI S1.25) found operators across the compressor house exceeding the 85 dB(A) action level, exposing the plant to citations and hearing-loss claims. CSTI mapped the noise, designed engineering controls, and stood up a compliant hearing conservation program.
ArchitecturalReverberation ran long for the spoken word while mechanical noise intruded on quiet passages. CSTI modeled RT60 across the room, specified variable absorption and diffusion, and silenced the air-handling paths to a broadcast-grade background.
Community · Land UseProjected nighttime Ldn along a freight-rail corridor exceeded the HUD 65 dB guideline, putting entitlement at risk. CSTI ran an environmental noise survey, modeled Ldn, and specified a façade and barrier package that met the interior target.
Litigation · Expert WitnessResidents alleged plant noise constituted an actionable nuisance, with six-figure exposure. CSTI conducted long-term monitoring to ANSI S1.4, authored the expert report, and provided deposition and trial testimony grounded strictly in the measurements.
Mechanical · CommercialRooftop chiller plant noise drew tenant complaints and exceeded the local commercial limit. CSTI measured sound power, designed an acoustic screen with spring isolation, and verified the result with post-installation testing.
